Jason brings more than two decades experience in communications, strategy and political consulting serving clients in the political, corporate and nonprofit sectors. For more than a decade, he was CEO of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, impelled by his friend Matt's tragic murder.

Prior to that role, he covered politics and policy for Wyoming’s statewide newspaper from Washington, D.C., and founded Wyoming’s state-level affiliates to the League of Conservation Voters. He lobbied the Wyoming Legislature over eight sessions and facilitated and co-led several wildlife and conservation coalitions in interacting with numerous local, state and federal governmental bodies and officials.

Jason also has managed numerous municipal and legislative campaigns, overseen a legislative PAC and has also co-authored academic research papers on hate crimes and other forms of bias-motivated behavior in more recent years.

In 2016, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock appointed Jason to the city’s LGBTQ Commission, where he has served as a past secretary, chair, and Public Safety Committee co-chair and remains a commissioner. He also currently serves as the board secretary to the both the Governor’s Residence Preservation Fund and the Baker Historic Neighborhood Association. He is a former president of the Wyoming Chapter of the Sierra Club, former vice chair of the Wyoming Wilderness Association, and a former board member of the Alliance for Historic Wyoming and of the Equality State Policy Center. Jason is a graduate of Harvard University. He and his husband reside in Denver.
